Former Central Catholic great and current URI standout Joe Leavitt shot a course-record 60 at the par-72 Atkinson Resort and Country Club yesterday.
The Atkinson resident didn’t go out and celebrate afterward.
“I’m sitting in my bed trying to relax because I have the State Am tomorrow morning. I’m teeing off at 8,” he said around 9:30 p.m. last night.
The State Amateur Championship is at Stonebridge Country Club today through Saturday.
Geoff Sisk held the previous course record, a 64, at Atkinson.
Leavitt’s good buddy Nick Pandelena was there for all 18 holes yesterday. Leavitt said he has shot a 65 at least six or seven times there.
“I’ve been really close but today was pretty awesome,” he said.
He eagled the first hole, and then birdied holes 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7. He eagled hole 11 and birdied 12, 16 and 17.
Leavitt’s personal best round of golf at any course was previously a 63.
