TRENTON, N.J. — Kyle Drabek pitched well enough to win in the Fisher Cats' first playoff game in six seasons, but Trenton's six pitchers combined to blank New Hampshire in a 2-0 win in the first game of the Eastern League playoffs.
Drabek, who had beaten Trenton four times in the regular season, suffered his first loss since July 17, allowing one run and three hits in six innings.
The Fisher Cats left 10 men on base.
Adam Loewen led off the ninth with a single. After Ryan Pope struck out Matt Liuzza, pinch-hitter Ricardo Nanita singled. But with runners on the corners, Darin Mastroianni drilled a liner to third that was caught by Justin Snyder. Snyder doubled off Loewen to end the game.
Game 2 of the best-of-5 series is here today at 7:05 p.m. New Hampshire will start Zach Stewart (8-3, 3.63). New York Yankees southpaw Andy Pettitte will make a rehab start for the Thunder.
New Hampshire will host game three of the series, and game four (if necessary) on Friday and Saturday at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
