North Andover hires Paul Tanglis as next boys hoop coach

---- — NORTH ANDOVER -- One of the most sought after high school jobs in the state, the North Andover High boys basketball position, has been filled.

And the school administrators stayed local, hiring 2000 NAHS grad, Paul Tanglis.

Tanglis replaces Mike McVeigh, who concluded a 31-year run as head coach that included 497 wins and four appearances in the Division 2 sectional finals.

In a statement sent out by athletic director Jon Longley, he noted: "We are excited to announce the hiring of Paul Tanglis as our new boys basketball coach. Paul has been the head coach at Stoneham High School for the past three seasons ... (and has) guided Stoneham to the state tournament the past two seasons while competing in extremely competitive Middlesex League."

Tanglis went on to Framingham State and played basketball there for four years, and was captain as a senior.

He also served as associate head coach at Medford High School for three season prior to being hired in Stoneham. He also coached at Plymouth State and North Andover High.

"The North Andover High boy basketball program is one of the historic boys basketball programs in Massachusetts having qualified for the state tournament every season tournament play has been in existence," noted Longley in the statement.

"Paul has proved himself to be a successful coach and a leader of young men. We are are extremely happy to have Paul as our coach and we look forward to continued success in boys basketball in the future."
