The Haverhill Post 4 Junior Legion team pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth last night to nip Lynn 4-3.
The victory was the third straight for Post 4 and earned it the No. 1 seed from District 8 in the Junior Legion state tournament, which opens Saturday in Attleboro.
Dan Surrette went the distance for the win, allowing six hits, striking out six and holding Lynn scoreless over the final five innings.
Mike Jaskelevicus led off the eighth with a single. Cam Simes came in as a pinch runner and eventually scored on a passed ball and a throwing error.
Ben Mayo had two hits for Haverhill and Matt Fenderson had an RBI triple, scoring Mike McIntosh.
Haverhill advanced to last night’s game with a 3-2 win over Newburyport Post 150 Red 3-2. Fenderson pitched well in the win giving up two earned runs in a complete game performance.
The offense was paced by Jon Panaro with two hits, an RBI and run scored. Mcintosh and Josh Barton added RBI hits and Mayo and Andrew Hanides had hits and scored.
Night Owls peak for playoffs
Led by leadoff batter Dan Lagasse, the Kingston Night Owls ripped North Reading 10-3 to close out the regular season with a 17-7 record.
Lagasse had a single, double, home run and five RBIs while Matt Pickles chipped in with two hits.
James Machado, Brian Wolfendale, Paul Trabucco and Grey Goodrich combined for the win.
Burt paces Prep
St. John’s Prep, led by 12 points from North Andover’s Max Burt, edged Andover 41-37 in boys Hoops for Hope action last night. St. John’s lost in the Bradner semifinals last week but Burt and Ben Judson were not available for the game. John Pisacreta led Andover with 19 points.
