Methuen National makes deep run in Cal Ripken Tourney

The Methuen National 12-year-old team went deeper in the Cal Ripken State Tournament than any other Methuen team in previous years.

Methuen National defeated both Chelmsford and Westford in District 2 pool play. It then won 6-2 over Tyngsboro to earn a spot in the state tournament in Raynham.

Methuen opened the state tournament with a 9-3 victory over Arlington National.

Aidan Abernathy hurled 6.0 strong innings, allowing just five hits before Ryan Gallagher stroked an RBI hit to add some insurance late.

Cam Boes and Sam Ferullo also contributed offensively.

Methuen then lost to Qunicy 15-2 to move to the losers bracket.

In the losers bracket, Methuen beat Bourne 13-5 in the first game.

Dominic Keegan smashed two homers and drove in eight runs while Robbie DelSolia and Roan Marcano made key defensive plays.

Methuen then came from behind to defeat Revere 6-3 in an extra-inning game. Keith Ferris came through with a solid pitching performance while Patrick Cooper blasted a two-run homer.

In the semifinal though, Methuen lost to host Rayhnam 3-1.
