I can’t help but wonder if fate is working its magic this week, and might we be in for something special?
Andover High product Ryan Hanigan made his Fenway Park debut earlier in the week with the Tampa Bay Rays. We all saw that. But this week also marks the return of Hanigan’s high school teammate and fellow Rollins College product Rob Oppenheim to the Web.com Tour.
Oppenheim, who has no status but remains a member the Web.com Tour, has endured time away from the tour by working on his game, getting healthy and simply prepping for the opportunity. He gets his first start this week in Georgia, at the South Georgia Classic.
Oppenheim opened today with a sharp 3-under par 69 in round 1.
News broke this week and colleague Dave Willis relayed it here in this spot yesterday that Duane Sigsbury will take over the Billerica High football program.
Can I just scream “Yahll!”
Sigsbury is a proven winner, a coach with a positive vibe and the drive to succeed. He’s an instant upgrade for the Indians, and that’s a great thing for the Merrimack Valley Conference. There is nothing better in area sports -- nothing -- than when MVC football is rolling on a high.
Sigsbury brings credibility. Can’t wait for all those big on big matchups with Central, Andover and the like.
CHEAP POP FOR AN 80s WRESTLING REFERENCE
Former Colleague Ryan Lambert (@twolinepass) tossed out a great tweet this week on how Bruins coach Claude Julien is one sequined jacket away from being hockey’s version of Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and he should embrace it. Let me tell you, Julien’s checking line of Piper, Orndorff and Ace Orton is legit.
Joe Leavitt wasted no time impacting this spring with the URI golf team in his first season. The Central Catholic product earned all Atlantic-10 first-team honors and took the A-10 Player of the Week Award five times.
