St. John's rates an edge over Andover

First of all, congratulations to Andover for foiling my Thanksgiving prediction.

While I knew it’d be a close game, I thought that Central Catholic’s offense would generate more points than it did. But the improving Andover defense came through when needed. From what I heard, the prediction fired up some of the Andover players and coach E.J. Perry.

If that’s true, and it helped motivate the Warriors, I’m happy to oblige. So happy, in fact, that I’m going to try it again with Andover’s playoff matchup tonight against St. John’s Prep.

The St. John’s Prep defense is probably the strongest that Andover has faced all year and its running game may be better than any other as well. Both looked strong in its 31-7 victory over Central Catholic back in September.

On the other hand, the Prep has not faced a passing attack as prolific as Andover, so this game could be a classic.

But, if the game goes based on what has transpired during the season, St. John’s rates an edge.

PICK: St. John’s Prep 28, Andover 24

Thursday’s Games

Greater Lawrence (8-3) vs. Gr. New Bedford (5-6)

The Reggies seems to have everything going in its favor in Thursday’s large school State Voke Bowl. They have revenge, having lost to the same team 19-16 last year, they’re playing close to home in Lynn and they have a more prolific offense. There is simply no reason to pick against them.

PICK: Gr. Lawrence 20, Gr. New Bedford 7

Season record: 131-37
