---- — The Manchester Monarchs gave up five goals in the third period to squander a three-goal lead and lose 5-4 to the Springfield Falcons last night.
Manchester (9-7-2-1) is in second place in the Atlantic Division. Springfield (11-3-1-3) leads the Northeast Division.
“I think our guys mentally thought they had the game and Springfield had other thoughts,” Monarchs coach Mark Morris said.
Springfield pulled ahead at the 16-minute mark of the third with a shorthanded goal by left wing Ryan Craig.
Monarchs goalie Martin Jones (7-8-1) stopped 27 of 32 shots. Springfield netminder Curtis McElhinney (10-2-2) made 25 saves on 29 shots.
Manchester went 0 for 2 on the power play. Springfield was 1 for 3.
