Methuen girls hockey dominates debut

The Methuen-Tewksbury co-op girls hockey team is a first-year varsity program.

Neither Methuen nor Tewksbury had any hockey program prior to this winter.

So when the Rangers took on an established Boston Latin team in their first ever game, its probably not a big surprise that the final score was 8-0.

But the Rangers won!

Kelly Golini, a 7th grader from Tewksbury, and Amanda Conway of Methuen each had a hat trick. Golini, Hayley McCarthy and Methuen’s Kathleen LeFebre contributed two assists apiece in the Merrimack Valley/Dual County League matchup. Taylor Lirakis posted the shutout.

Boston Latin went 5-14-2 last year.

“The girls did a fantastic job,” said head coach Kim Bruff. “I thought it would be a real close game. We have some players.”
