Local Roundup: Murphy, Andover Legion upset Newburyport

---- — Ben Murphy allowed just two singles and struck out 10 over 6 2/3 innings and added an RBI single as Andover Legion rolled over first-place Newburyport 7-0.

Jack Cox led the Post 8 offense with a two-run double and another RBI on a sacrifice, incoming high school freshman Andrew Selima belted a two-run homer over the wall in right field and Cam Farnham doubled and scored twice.

Marino hands Salemfirst Legion loss

Londonderry Legion scored three runs with two outs in the top of the ninth to beat Salem 4-2. Austin Marino’s long three-run homer was the game-winner.

Danny Peters fired seven innings of one-run baseball and Mitch Dufton shined in right field for 5-1 Salem.

Gerossi does it all

Derry Legion beat Portsmouth 12-5. Chris Gerossie went the first seven innings, yielding four hits and two runs while striking out six. Gerossie added three hits, three walks and scored four times. Grant Wagner contributed two hits and three RBIs and Justin Bundzinski had two hits, two RBIs and three runs.

Shepley goes deep as Cardinals stop Chiefs

The Salem Cardinals Senior Babe Ruth team beat the Nashua Chiefs 6-1.

Jake Shepley smacked a three-run homer in the first inning. Andrew Calandra (3 hits) singled in a run in the fifth and scored on a Connor Suech double. Winning pitcher Jeremy Bagley gave up three hits and one run in five innings.
