Sports in a Minute: Windham's World Series hero

Windham Major leaguer

With all due respect to David Carbonello, Windham High’s starting shortstop, he’s been demoted to the No. 2 shortstop in town. Red Sox World series champion Orlando Cabrera, who played 15 years in the majors, is now living in Windham. ... Ex-Red Sox manager Grady Little is coaching at Hickory Grove (N.C.) Christian School.

Warrior drafted

Merrimack recruit Chris LeBlanc of Winthrop was chosen in the sixth round by the Ottawa Senators in the recent NHL draft. The 6-3, 195-pound forward will have to fight for playing time as the Warriors return their 10 leading scorers.

Central-St. Anthony’s II

Central Catholic nearly snapped 2012 MaxPrep national champion St. Anthony’s of Jersey City’s national-leading 70-game win streak late last December. The Raiders will get another shot at the Friars this December at the Shooting Touch Shootout in Boston.

Fabulous freshman

To heck with Hannah Montana, I’ll go with Hannah Delaware! The Cazenovia (N.Y.) College freshman starting midfielder notched 13 goals and 21 ground balls in 18 games.

A Dean’s List student with a 3.5 GPA, the Haverhill High grad won the Coach’s Award and the Cazenovia First Year Design Award.

why I hate ESPN

Reason No. 1,471. Chris Mortensen totally downplaying the fact that since the Super Bowl 28 NFL players have been arrested. “It’s only 1 percent,” he says.

I may have received a gentleman’s D in Bill Drummond’s statistics class, but that’s 1 percent in less than 5 months. That’s hardly insignificant and most aren’t for jaywalking. Recently it was Aaron Hernandez for murder and Browns rookie Ausar Walcott for attempted murder.

Betcha didn’t know

Kaley Cuoco, aka Penny of the Big Bang Theory, once was ranked No. 12 in doubles among 14-year-old girls in Southern California. Jim Parsons (aka Sheldon) doesn’t strike you as an athlete, but he’s a huge Houston Rockets fan, even making a YouTube video pleading for Dwight Howard to sign with them.
