Krinsky’s clutch pitching lifts Andover
Andover Legion topped Middleton 9-5 in a game called due to darkness after six innings.
Andrew Selima got the win. He yielded three earned runs in five-plus innings. Max Krinsky came on with the bases loaded in the sixth and came through with flying colors. The Andover High sophomore-to-be induced a pop-up and two ground balls, limiting Middleton to one run.
Andrew Bruno collected four hits and three RBIs. Jimmy Walsh added two hits and an RBI. Selima, who will be a freshman at St. John’s Prep, tripled in two runs in the first.
Andrew Nason starred behind the plate and threw out a runner trying to steal.
Kuegel rescues Salem
Salem Post 63 shaded Derry Post 9, 2-1, in Junior Legion action.
Riley Kuegel singled in Conor Abraham for the winning run in the sixth. Pat McCarty fired five innings of one-hit ball in the win. Greg Marggraf got the win in relief.
Mantoni top scholar
Recent Merrimack graduate Joe Mantoni of Northbridge won the Northeast-10 Spring Scholar-Athlete Sports Excellence Award.
Mantoni, who was named the College’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, led the Warriors with 36 RBIs. He also racked up eight saves and a stellar 1.61 ERA. An economics major with a 3.87 GPA, Mantoni was drafted in the 18th round by the Cincinnati Reds.
