Merrimack announces hockey ticket packages

NORTH ANDOVER — Merrimack College has unveiled its home schedule for the 2011-12 hockey season.

Along with nine conference opponents, the Warriors will welcome non-conference opponents UConn and Army.

The non-conference schedule is highlighted by a visit from Union, who, like the Warriors, made their first NCAA tournament in recent years last season.

The Warriors and Dutchmen haven't played since 2004 and haven't faced off at Lawler Arena since 2002.

Merrimack's road non-conference slate includes two games at the Dartmouth Holiday Tournament and a visit to Colgate in December. It will be the first time the Raiders and Warriors meet at Starr Rink since 1996.

"You look to do a few things with your non-conference schedule," head coach Mark Dennehy said. "You want to bring exciting teams into your building for your fans. You want to prepare yourself for your conference schedule and me personally, I want to play coaches I have a great amount of respect for and our non-conference schedule achieves all of that."

Merrimack fever swept the region and Lawler Arena became a tough place to play.

Merrimack, which sold out 10 of its home games last season, finished 14-2-1 at Lawler Arena.

"Lawler has become a great place to play because of our students and the rest of the fans," said Dennehy, who will enter his seventh season as head coach. "Our guys play with a lot of confidence because of the support. There was nothing more humbling than looking up in the Garden at all the Merrimack hockey fans, and there is nothing as intimidating as our student section."

Season tickets start at $295 for adults and $195 for youths and seniors.

A limited number of Blue Line Club memberships, which include preferred center-ice seating, VIP parking, a buffet dinner for all home games, and access to away game tickets, are also available.

For the first time, Merrimack is also sponsoring a faculty and staff special season ticket price of $80 for preferred reserved seating.

Fans can call the box office at 978-837-5324 to place orders. Individual game tickets will go on sale at a later date.
