Incoming high school freshman Andrew Selima continued to swing a hot bat with a hit, a sacrifice fly and two RBIs as Andover Legion downed North Andover 6-4. Ace Dustin Hunt, now playing first base, added two doubles and two RBIs, Ben Murphy had two hits and scored twice and Cam Farnham added two more hits, stole two bases and scored a run for Post 8.
Alec Livingston was the winning pitcher, working 6 2/3 innings and striking out seven, while Reid Bryant notched his third save of the season.
Salem senior Babe Ruth swept a doubleheader from Monadnock, blasting them 13-3 in the opener, then winning a 6-5 nail-biter in the later game.
In the early contest, Matt Meisner had three hits, three RBIs and scored twice, Alex Mahn drove in two runs and scored two more and Aaron Sickel and Mitch Hullihen each had two hits and scored two runs.
In the later game, Sickel scored what proved to be the winner when Zach Martineau drove him home on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the sixth. Kyle Nagri added three hits and Connor Suech had two hits and scored twice.
Jamie Collins was 2 for 3 with a 2-run homer, but Derry Legion could find no more offense and fell to Nashua 3-2. Josh Yaratz was the tough luck loser, allowing just four hits and striking out six over a complete-game effort.
Methuen Legion rallied from a 3-0 deficit, but fell to Newburyport 6-5 in 11 innings. Enrique Veras notched three hits and two RBIs on the day and sparked the rally in the fifth, with help from hits from Connor Norton and Nick Delois. Danny Aziz and Veras combined to scatter 10 hits.
Londonderry’s Steve Considine continued to roll, allowing just four hits and striking out seven over six innings as Kingston downed Beverly 8-1 in North Shore League action. Joe Morin of Salem had a single, a double and two RBIs and Kamal Asar scored one run and drove in another for the winners.
