North Reading junior Emily Murray set a school record in the shot put with a 39-4 1/2 throw in the Hornets’ 53-33 loss to Newburyport.

Windham wrestling coach Tom Darrin, who had a Hall of Fame coaching career at Reading High School, won his 400th meet as the Jaguars beat both Oyster River and St. Thomas.

Senior Deirdre Martyn, who played basketball until this year, won the 1,000 meters in a fine 3:15.3 and junior Jenna Smolag, a gymnast the previous two years, won the 55 meters in 7.6 to lead North Andover past Chelmsford. Danielle Voke ran a PR 12:16.2 to win the 2-mile.

On his birthday, Timberlane senior Josh Riley had a major decision in the Owls; 56-9 romp over Keene and also had a win in a limited meet with Fall Mountain.

Samnell Vonleh blocked 15 shots and Josie Sanchez recorded 13 blocks but Whittier girls basketball lost 76-58 to Brockton.

Whittier Tech senior Austin Sciacca, who won his weight class at the Tyngsboro Tournament last week, stayed unbeaten with a first period pin at 220, but the Wildcats dropped a 42-40 thriller at Wayland.

Sophomore heavyweight Mason Dally had an exciting pin with three seconds left in the first period and Chris Paquette sealed the victory for Georgetown with a second-period fall as the Royals clipped Malden Catholic 44-36.

Eric Coburn scored twice while Jason Parker and Brett Evangelista each added a goal as Londonderry boys hockey improved to 2-1 with an impressive 4-0 win over over Nashua North.

St. John’s Prep defeated Bishop Fenwick 68-34 as North Andover residents Drex Costello and Tyler Dooley scored 14 and 10 points respectively.

In her second game of the year, Amanda Conway netted her second hat trick as Methuen girls hockey won 4-3 over Wayland.

St. John’s Prep’s wrestling team improved to 8-1 with a 56-15 romp over Lowell. Haverhill’s Corey Jean-jacques had a first period pin for the Eagles.
