---- — LYNN — Cam Manning doesn’t own the place. He just played like it last night.

Manning and senior captain Ryan Doherty paced a Central Catholic defense that held Lynn English to just 43 yards on 27 rushes for an average of 1.6 yards per carry here at Manning Field as the Raiders rolled, 20-3.

“We focus on wrapping up and gang tackling and it definitely shows in how our defense worked,” said Doherty, who like Manning had a sack. “(Isaiah Davis) is a great back and he was running tough. But (if one tackler) missed, the rest of the team was following right behind him.”

Twenty-eight of Lynn English’s 43 yards were gained on one play when Davis scampered free on a fake punt.

“We’ve been shutting down the run pretty much every week,” Doherty said.

“We came in here focused on not letting them get on the scoreboard too much,” Doherty added. “Holding them to a field goal and not letting them see the end zone all night was huge.”

Central’s offense

The Central offense didn’t dominate, rushing for 135 yards on 41 carries and posting 74 yards in the air.

“We didn’t have the best day offensively,” Central quarterback Mike Milano said. “We’re going to have to do better Thanksgiving against Andover.”

Milano completed 6 of 17 passes for 81 yards and threw one interception. He hooked up with receiver Thomas Jenoski for a 30-yard touchdown during the third quarter.

“We have great receivers,” Milano said. “They catch everything. I put it up for them and they make plays for me.”

To the rescue

Milano had the wind knocked out of him early in the third quarter and had to leave the game for one play.

In came backup QB Nick Boes who immediately ran for a nine-yard gain.

“Whenever we want to put him in, he’ll do his job,” Milano said about Boes.

“Me and him have a good relationship. I think he’s an amazing quarterback. He can throw the ball a mile.”
