Nanita homers but Fisher Cats lose

MANCHESTER — After feeling under the weather for a few days, Fisher Cats designated hitter Ricardo Nanita returned to the lineup for the opener of a seven-game homestand.

Nanita homered a double and blasted his first home run of the season, but New Hampshire lost 4-3 to the Binghamton Mets.

Nanita figured into the Fisher Cats’ (7-8) early rallies as New Hampshire built a 3-1 lead after four innings. He doubled and scored on an Amadeo Zazueta single in the third and then blasted his homer the next inning.

The Mets (8-6) scored three times in the sixth to take a lead.

Nanita stroked his third hit of the game with one out in the ninth, but he was thrown out at second base trying to stretch a single into a double.

The Fisher Cats banged out nine hits. Zazueta added two.

The series continues on Friday at 6:35 p.m.

RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx (1-2, 3.57) goes against Binghamton RHP Erik Goeddel (1-1, 3.48).
