Yes, sharp-eyed viewers, that is former Pentucket athlete Ed Ryan in the W.B. Mason television ad with Red Sox announcer Tom Caron.
He doesn’t have to do too much acting as he is the zone commander for security at Fenway Park. Ryan appears early on, advising Caron his car is blocked.
Ryan admits he was told to play up the Boston accent. It might seem like easy work but Ryan says it took numerous takes.
The ad, which runs often on television, can also be seen on YouTube by searching TC’s Journey.
Working for the Sox is a perfect fit for the Merrimac native. His cousin, Haverhill’s Mike Ryan, was a major league catcher for 10 years including 1964-67 with the Red Sox.
The Ryan clan is well known for its involvement in sports. Ed’s brother, also named Mike Ryan, was the former sports editor at the Haverhill Gazette. Ed, who graduated from Pentucket in 1987 and BC in 1992, writes a gambling column for the Boston Globe.
Having a nice job with the Sox, needless to say, makes Ed awfully popular with his nephews Lucky, Mikey and Bumblebee Ryan of Haverhill.
