---- — Methuen hall of famer

Kristen (Mahoney) Farrell is being inducted into the UMass Lowell Hall of Fame. She pitched the River Hawks to two NCAA tourney berths and her coach, Harry Sauter, recently said, “She was the best UMass Lowell ever had.”

The 2007 graduate, a three-time all-conference selection, posted career marks of 70 wins, 598 strikeouts in 673 innings and 25 shutouts. The Burlington native, who is the current head coach at Burlington High, now lives in Methuen with her husband, ex-UML hockey player Grant Farrell.

Cakes are baking

UTL birthday wishes go out to former 12-year Baltimore Colt offensive lineman Dan Sullivan of Andover (74 today), Columbia closer Mike Weisman of North Andover (turns 21 Tuesday) and Villanova distance runner Chris Pietrocarlo of Hampstead (turns 22 Thursday).

Where are they now

Sean Tuohy Jr., a sophomore walk-on point guard at Loyola of Maryland, is well known from the movie the Blind Side. His family took in homeless teen Michael Oher, who is now starring for the Baltimore Ravens.

Championship pedigree

The Loyola Marymount basketball team has three sons of ex-NBA players: walk-on Chris Mullin Jr. (son of Hall of Famer Chris), reserve Adam Drexler (son of Hall of Famer Clyde) and C.J. Blackwell (son of Cory).

LSU defensive tackle J.R. Ferguson, like his father, is called Ego by one and all. Ego Ferguson, now that’s a fitting name for the modern athlete.

Bruno hired

Liz Bruno of Andover, who led Trinity to the 2012 Division 3 national title, has been hired as an assist women’s lacrosse coach at Tufts. The Brooks School grad was an assistant for the Thayer Academy girls hockey and lax teams last year.

Spartan dynasty

The Bullough family is synonymous with Michigan State football. This year’s team includes All-Big 10 linebacker Max and his younger brother Riley. Their brother, Byron, will be a freshman in 2014. Their father, Shane, co-captained the 1986 team. Their grandfather, Hank, starred for the 1952 Rose Bowl team, played in the NFL, coached 11 years at MSU and was a long-time NFL coach including with the Patriots.

Their uncle, Chuck, was a second-team All-American, played in the NFL and coached at MSU. Another uncle, Bobby Morse, played at MSU and the NFL and their grandfather, Jim Morse, and uncle, also named Jim Morse, played at Notre Dame.

Somerville arrests

Three Somerville High JV boys soccer players were arrested Friday on rape charges at Camp Lenox in Otis, Mass.

How, in the year 2013, any school allows its students to attend these camps is beyond me. Time and time again we’ve heard the horror stories. But the sickeningly naive coaches, ADs, principals and superintendents just stick their heads in the sand.

huge brothers

Sim Bhullar is a 7-5, 360-pound sophomore basketball player at New Mexico State. This year he’ll be joined by his 7-3, 300-pound freshman brother Tanveer.
