Too much heat
Four cross country meets were postponed yesterday because of temperatures in the mid-90s. Andover-North Andover, Haverhill-Tewksbury and Lawrence-Central Catholic were all moved to tomorrow while Greater Lawrence-North Shore will square off today.
In a battle of two of the top field hockey teams in the region, Andover gave up a goal in the first 29 seconds of the game and then held Chelmsford scoreless in a 1-1 Merrimack Valley Conference tie. Julia LeBlanc scored for the Warriors while Jess and Jackie Leone, Weezy Gross and Emily Gibson all played strong defensive games.
Castillo gives Lancers win
It took Lawrence until its last game of the 2012 season to earn a win in field hockey, but the Lancers took care of it in Game 2 of 2013, topping Dracut 1-0. Bioribel Castillo scored the winner midway through the second half.

Kaylie DeCosmo continued her amazing start with her second four-goal performance in three games as Pinkerton beat Keene 6-1 in field hockey.
Burt aids win
Max Burt of North Andover fired a 38 to help the St. John’s Prep golf team beat Catholic Memorial 222-246.
Hat trick breakout
Junior Chantalle Dumont scored her first three goals of the year to power unbeaten Salem to a 5-0 win over Manchester Memorial in field hockey. Amanda Travaglini had three assists for the Devils (4-0).
Haverhill won every event in a season-opening romp over Billerica. Maggie Franklin won the 200 and 500 freestyle and was on both the 200 and 500 free relays.
Sydney Moran came in first to pace Presentation of Mary to a girls cross country sweep of Whittier (27-28), Chelsea and Lynn Tech.
