Boys Prep School Cross Country: Phillips, Brooks look to Methuen standouts

Returning lettermen: Joe St. Cyr, Sr., Methuen; Brian Fogarty, Jr.; Tom Caron, Jr., Andover; Jun Yabuki, Jr.; Gardner Crary, Soph.

Promising newcomers: Charlie Quinn, Soph.; Ethan Gabert-Doyan, Frosh.

Candidates: 16

Captains: Joe St. Cyr

N.E. Prep Division 3: 14. Joe St. Cyr, 58. Tom Caron

Odds and ends: Former assistant Ryan Dobbins replaced Scott Kelly, who was the head coach the last two years. Dobbins, who ran at Denison University, is a network administrator at Brooks who enjoys doing stand-up comedy. ... Joe St. Cyr ran a superb road race in the preseason, finishing fourth at the Dracut 5K in 17:36. Gardner Crary came in ninth. ... Newcomer Ethan Gabert-Doyan is a freshman from Montreal who is a superb basketball player.

Coach Ryan Dobbins (1st year): “Last year, we were top heavy with our first three, led by Sawyer Rogers, but this year we have a lot more depth. We should do better than last year.”

Coach Jeff Domina (5th year): “I think our prospects are good. Phillips Exeter will be the team to beat, but we’re in position to finish higher than last year.”
