Late Bishop score gives Londonderry win

GOFFSTOWN, N.H. — Londonderry didn’t make it easy, but in the end the Lancers locked down their best start in five seasons.

With 2:51 left in regulation, Dennis Bishop plunged in from 6 yards out to give Londonderry a two-score lead and, with less than a minute left, the Lancers recovered an on-sides kick to clinch a come-from-behind 36-34 shootout victory over pesky Goffstown.

With the victory, Londonderry earned its first 2-0 start since the 2008 season.

The Lancers jumped ahead first, as QB Aaron Gaudet hooked up with running back Eric Fairweather for a 70-yard touchdown pass. After three lead changes, Fairweather struck again as he scored from 24 yards out to give his team a 16-13 advantage. Goffstown then responded with two scores to take a 20-16 lead heading into the half.

But back came Londonderry, as Bishop scored a 3-yard touchdown in the third and Gaudet scampered in from 65 yards out to give the Blue a 29-20 advantage with 8:06 left in the game.

Goffstown cut it to 29-27, but Bishop struck with his insurance score to make it 36-27. The Grizzlies managed one last score, but the Lancers recovered the kick and ran out the clock.

Fairweather led the Londonderry offense, rushing for 147 yards on just 10 carries and catching three passes for 77 yards. Bishop added 78 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns and Gaudet completed 7 of 9 passes for 144 yards and one score and rushed seven times for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Fairweather was also a force on defense with a team-high seven tackles while Harrison Giza made 6.5 tackles.
