Joe Sanguedolce rushed 19 times for 194 yards and 3 TDs for Methuen in a 30-7 romp over Tewksbury. ... If you thought Lawrence High would christen the new lights at Lawrence Stadium, you thought wrong. In the first night game ever there, Central Catholic lost to Billerica 13-0. Mike Mastrullo threw for 199 yards for Billerica. Central’s Matt Cassano threw for 157 yards in what would prove to be his club’s only loss of the season.

In the first night game ever at Haverhill Stadium, Brian Tellier scored but Lowell tripped the Hillies 17-6. ... Matt Jordan (20 carries, 160 yards, 3 TDs) and Russ Massahos (2 TDs) powered Pinkerton in a 40-6 win over Salem. ... Pelham, a first-year varsity program, took it on the chin from Newport, 58-0. ... Erik Cain score both TDs for Timberlane in a 42-13 setback to Winnacunnet. ... ... Former Little League hero Toby Guzowski scored twice and freshman Brian Tisbert booted a 27-yard field goal as Andover topped Lawrence 17-7.

25 years ago: Thornton perfect for knights

In a 28-0 North Andover shellacking of Ipswich, Brad Thornton was 5 for 5 for 116 yards including two TD passes to Jeff Kooken and one to Rick DiChiara. ... Joe Celia and Bob Diodati filled in with Lawrence coach Steve Perocchi out with a bad back. Bill Bryant threw for 114 yards but Dracut rolled 17-0. ... Bill Eacrett scored twice for Londonderry in a 24-14 win over Laconia. ... Sean McCarthy had the Methuen touchdown in an 18-8 loss to Tewksbury. ... Mike McCoy (4 TDs) and Steve Puleo (2 TDs) led Pentucket in a 42-14 romp over Timberlane. ... Bert Tucker fired two TD passes and Alex Cayer scored twice as Salem blanked Spaulding 45-0.

Chelmsford whipped Andover 35-0. ... Chris Kalil scored twice and went over 100 yards rushing and Chris Lane passed for 105 yards including a 22-yard scoring strike to Luis “The Lip” Garcia as Central Catholic shaded Wilmington 21-14. ... Mike Hamel scored and “Hot Rod” Cruz added the conversion rush but Northeast rolled past Greater Lawrence 26-8. ... Haverhill missed the conversion with a minute left and fell to Lowell 21-10. Mike Favalora caught seven passes for 139 yards and two TDs from Brendon Skafas.
