Goldstein, Hillies win pitchers' duel over Vargas, Lawrence

Haverhill sophomore Josh Goldstein (4-hitter, 2 Ks) outdueled Lawrence junior Joan Vargas (4-hitter. 3 Ks) in a 2-1 win. Matt Burns plated a run on a triple in the fourth then scored the game-winner on a sac fly by Ryan Perez.

Show-stopper

Quadruple winner Ian Mitchell (triple jump, high jump, 400, 4x400) stole the show as Pentucket downed Hamilton-Wenham 94-51. Tim Freiermuth had an impressive shot put-javelin double.

Golden Gajewski

Danielle Gajewski won the 100 and 4x400 and Hannah Kimball ran on the winning 4x400 and 4x800 relays at the Southeastern New Hampshire Classic. They led Timberlane to a second-place finish out of 10 teams.

Gallant effort

Jake Lisauskas (4 goals) and Josh Gallant (3 goals) combined for seven goals and Kenny Sturgess (5 saves) and Cam Hayward (7 saves) split time in net as Pinkerton downed Nashua South 13-4.

Hornets take title

John Mastascusa won the discus and javelin and Cam Hastings won the pole vault, 200 and ran the anchor of the 4x100 relay as North Reading downed previously unbeaten Masconomet 78-67 to clinch at least a share of the CAL team title. They can win the title outright with a win over Lynnfield on Monday.

Dangerous DeBaldo

Becca DeBaldo scored five goals and Mandy Barton added three for Pelham in a 16-8 loss to Laconia.
