Trailing 8-4, Haverhill (10-7) rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Billerica 9-8. Sophomore Patrick Yale drove in junior Juanel Oriach for the game-winning run with a single as the Hillies qualified for the state tournament. Oriach went 2 for 3 with two RBIS and three runs scored, including a two-RBI double with the bases loaded in the last inning. Nick Comei added two RBIs and two runs scored for the Hillies, who have won five of their last six games. Junior Evan Penny surrendered one run on four hits over the final three and 2/3 innings to earn the victory.
Central wins duel
Central Catholic pulled out an exciting 2-1 victory over Dracut to all but wrap up the Merrimack Valley Conference Division 1 softball title. The Raiders, behind pitcher Olivia Antczak, improved to 14-2.
Trailing 7-2 after four innings, Pinkerton scored seven runs in the final three innings to pull out a 9-8 victory over Trinity. Winning pitcher Connor Donahue was 2 for 4 with three RBIs for the Astros and Brandon Paquin was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Londonderry’s Rob Del Signore lost a no-hitter with one out in the seventh but settled for a one-hitter in a 9-0 win over Nashua South. He has now gone 27 straight innings without allowing a run. Jake Welch was 4 for 5 for the Lancers.
Down 2-0, Methuen’s volleyball team won the last three games to edge Central Catholic and keep its playoff hopes alive. Tim Galloway-Burke combined 15 kills and an impressive seven blocks for the Rangers (8-10). Jake Branchaud had 40 assists and 13 digs.
Tucker Lippold notched 16 assists, 10 service points and two aces as Windham swept Mascenic 3-0.
