We also have two great guys at defensive end in John Oteri and Cole Organisciak.”

Receiver Ryan Etter hopes to return from a hand injury. ... Former Central Catholic and Endicott receiver Jimmy Nguyen joins the coaching staff.

Coach Chuck Adamopoulos (17th year, 112-61): “D’Andre (Drummond-Myrie) is obviously very important on both sides of the ball. Mike Balsamo is a playmaker at running back, receiver and defensive back. Mike Milano has a year under his belt and we are expecting big things out of him at quarterback. We do have a very talented front seven on defense. We have Joe Brown at defensive tackle, and he was one of the best in the league last year. Cam Manning is back at linebacker along with Markus Edmunds, who led us in tackles last year.”

Assistants: Vincent Pettis (offensive coordinator), Dan Gobbi, Ben Killoren, Jordan Cannava, Jason Crabbe, Dan Rorke (freshmen), Adam Joffrey (freshmen)

Odds and ends: The Hillies got bad news when Jordan Javier, an All-MVC Division 1 receiver as a sophomore, transferred back to Lynn English. They already had to replace Tommy Morgan (1,839 passing yards, 20 TD passes last fall) and Chance Brady (2,063 rushing yards, 32 TDs). ... The Hillies’ 8-3 record was their most wins since 2001 season (also 8-3), and more than in the past five years combined (6 wins). ... New starting QB Shane Finn returns to the team after electing not to play last season. ... Danny Surette is the brother of former Whitter standouts Steve and Shane Surette. ... Sophomore Jack Pettis is the nephew of offensive coordinator Vincent Pettis. .. Offensive lineman/linebacker Phil Panici is the lone two-way starter in the two-platoon system. ... Talented Michael Kwegyir-Attah, who was born in England, last fall switched over from soccer. ... Speedy transfer Ian Kessel (26 carries, 152 yards, 2 TDs) opened some eyes last year as a freshman at St. John’s Prep.

Coach Tim O’Connor (4th year, 12-21): “Shane Finn has a strong arm and brings senior leadership to the quarterback position. He is really kicking himself for not playing last season. Ian (Kessel) has won the starting running back job, and he has a ton of upside. John Ramsdell and Piero Garcia are both playmakers at receiver. We feel great about our offensive line. Linebacker Phil Panici and (defensive backs) Tommy Maguire and Josh Dion should make plays for us on defense.”

2012 record: 3-8

Assistants: Kevin Fielding, offensive coordinator; Chris Boardman, line; Dan Blouin, quarterbacks; Matt Cerullo, defensive backs; Christian Guzman, linebackers; Mark Cerullo, freshmen; Seth Winter, freshmen; Andrew Matos, volunteer; Wilson Ventura, volunteer

Odds and ends: Defensive back Victor Martinez is returning from a broken wrist that cost him half of his junior season. ... Safety Manny Vlan played for North Reading last season. ... At 5-foot-5 and 140 pounds, Christian Valentin continues Lawrence’s tradition of tiny skill players. But he is nothing compared to 5-foot-3 and 110 pound Michael Cavan, who has also impressed at receiver. ... Receiver and linebacker Rainier Almonte is the only player starting on offense and defense. ... Andy DelaCruz missed most of last season due to academic issues.

Coach Mike Yameen (9th year, 23-65): “Nelson Valerio is coming off a very good season at QB and a lot is on his shoulders. Kenny Richards had a good preseason at running back and Edison Urena should also step up there. Luis Ferreira and Christian Valentin are two guys we are looking to at receiver. Starlin Urena is a key returner on the offensive line. Our defense is anchored by (linemen) Xavier Santiago, Andy DelaCruz and Darious Morkeski and Jeff Coss at linebacker.”

Captains: Kenny Sullivan, Mike Golio, Luis Perez, Even Lacroix

Returning honorees: Willy Weinhold, MVC All-Star

Assistants: Ryan Dugan, Jim Gallatto, Sal Amato, Dan Holgate, Derrick Beasley, Bobby Hickey

Odds and ends: New coach Tom Ryan replaces interim coach Tom Tone, who wasn’t rehired after going 6-16 in two years. Ryan, was hired in February at age 33. The Rockland native was a captain at Springfield College and was a 12-year assistant at Tewksbury High, where he teaches history and is a longtime assistant baseball coach. ... Joining the Methuen staff is former New England Patriots fourth round pick Derrick Beasley. He previously was an assistant at Andover. He also coached the Boston Militia women’s team. ... Kyle Whittaker, who is coming off a torn ACL last season, is the brother of 2010 Eagle-Tribune All-Star offensive lineman Sean and former starting center Matt. ... Luis Perez is also working his way back from a torn meniscus that cost him time last season.

Coach Tom Ryan (1st year): “Austin (George-Williams) is in his second year as a starter and is bigger and faster than he was a year ago. And he’s an even better safety. Evan Lacroix will make plays for us at receiver and Kenny Sullivan and Willy Weinhold are a tough combo at running back. Kyle Whittaker is a legit offensive lineman and Mike Golio controls both sides of the line. Luis Perez is a hard-nosed nose guard and Christian Monserrat and Ruddy Severino are quick and very good defensive backs.”

Odds and ends: Freshman Matt Driscoll was pressed into duty on Thanksgiving and completed 8 of 10 passes for 153 yards. ... Last year was the Knights’ first losing season since going 3-8 in 2008. ... Receiver/defensive back James Foote is the last of the Foote brothers, following two-time Eagle-Tribune offensive Player of the Year Andy Foote (4,549 career yards, 470 career points, eighth in state history) and 2010 Eagle-Tribune All-Star receiver David Foote. ...
