SOX TO HONOR RIVERA
The Boston Red Sox will honor New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera’s career during a pregame ceremony at Fenway Park on Sunday.
It will the 43 year-old’s last regular season game at the ballpark.
The 19-season veteran and all-time saves leader announced his retirement before this year began.
Rivera has made more appearances than any other visiting reliever in the history of Fenway Park.
Sunday’s games is scheduled to start at 8:05 p.m. Fans who want to see the full ceremony should be in their seats at approximately 7:30 p.m.
FootballStudayHall.com recently conducted a survey determining which states produce the most college football players. Data was used from 2008-13.
Massachusetts was 33rd. Fewer than 1 percent of college football players come from Massachusetts.
The top four states — without much surprise — are Texas, Florida, California, Georgia and Ohio.
HIT THE BOOKS
It’s rare to receive a college football for FBS programs. Just how rare?
The article mentioned above that was on FootballStudyHall.com stated: “Slightly more than 2,300 high school seniors a year sign LOIs to play for football with FBS programs. Based on official population estimates from the US Census, that works out to just about exactly 0.75 recruits per 100,000 population. Based on a 50/50 gender split (and I know that is not exact, but I can only spend so much time digging for data on websites ending in .gov), that is 1.5 recruits per 100,000 males nationally.”
Thus, high school football players should hit the books and not depend on being offered a football scholarship.
BIG GAME ALERT!
Methuen football (1-0) is at Lawrence (0-1) at 7 p.m. today. Methuen aired it out in Week 1 against Malden with Austin George-Williams completing 14-of-18 passes for 205 yards. Meanwhile, Lawrence QB Nelson Valerio threw for four touchdowns against Central last week.
