Austin Prep falls in Division 2 finals

WORCESTER — Austin Prep’s girls soccer team fell to Central champion Sutton 2-1 at Foley Stadium yesterday morning in the Division 4 State championship game.

For the Cougars, it was only their second loss of the season as they finished with an all-time best record of 18-2-3. Sutton was playing in their 4th state championship game in the past five years and it was the first girls’ soccer championship for the school.

Sutton junior Eve Goulet led the “Suzie’s” to victory, scoring two goals in the first half at 12:42 and 32:00, both coming off the set plays of corner kicks.

Sutton dominated the first half, putting 14 shots on the cougar’s senior netminder Olivia Zizza of North Reading, and she stopped 12 in the half, and 17 in the game.

Austin’s only goal was sandwiched between the two Goulet goals when they also took advantage of a corner kick by senior captain Allyson Braciska and her kick would be headed in by senior Katherine Swierk at 23:00.

Sutton, the number 2 Central Massachusetts seed, ended with a 20-1-2 record.
