Patriots Training Camp: Farnham back with Patriots

FOXBORO — Buddy Farnham's quest to make the Patriots isn't over just yet.

The former Andover High and Brown great was re-signed yesterday after the team placed veteran wide receiver Torry Holt on injured reserve with a knee injury. This likely means the end of Holt's brief stay in New England.

The 6-foot, 185-pound Farnham was originally signed as a rookie free agent out of Brown on May 3 but was released last Monday. He was the Ivy League MVP and New England Player of the Year (all divisions) last fall when he caught 74 passes for 1,003 yards and 11 TDs.

With a logjam at receiver, No. 13's best hope is likely to make the practice squad.

The Pats also signed rookie free agent offensive lineman Bryan Simmons (6-4, 318 pounds) out of Oklahoma.

The Pats also released rookie defensive back Ross Ventrone, a free agent out of Villanova.

At practice yesterday Tom Brady was playing with his index and middle fingers taped on his throwing hand. Later in the day he was practicing without the tape.
