North Andover West drops first game

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — Despite a 2-for-2 performance at the plate and 3.0 strong innings on the mound from Brady O’Brien, the North West 10-year-old team lost 10-3 to Portsmouth, R.I. in the 10-year-old Little League championship in Cranston, R.I. yesterday.

It was the first game in a four-game pool play format for North Andover, which looks to rebound in Game 2 tomorrow at 5 p.m. against Bedford, N.H. The West team has today off.

The score was tied 3-3 entering the bottom of the fifth, but that’s when Rhode Island came out swinging. Its rally included a three-run double after a close play at first base that had loaded the basses. O’Brien, who was the winning pitcher in all three state final games and a strong No. 3 hitter, allowed just one run in his 3.0 innings. Jack Morin went 2.0 innings, allowing two runs.

Dylan Caporale was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Morin was 1 for 2.
