Owls rule own tournament again

Capture 19th straight title

PLAISTOW, N.H. — To say that the Timberlane wrestling team dominates its own tournament would be a major understatement, as it proved again yesterday.

The Owls won the 16-team Timberlane Tournament for the 19th straight time in overwhelming fashion, piling up 277 points to nearly double up runner-up Winnacunnet (141 1/2).

Moreover, the Timberlane B team came in fourth, which was ahead of solid teams like Reading, Waltham and Londonderry, the latter of which came in seventh.

Even with standout Matt Morris missing because of sickness, Timberlane crowned seven champions and had wrestlers in the top three in 13 of 14 weight classes.

Among the champions, Timberlane coach Barry Chooljian was particularly pleased with freshman 103-pounder Adam Corey while, at 112, star sophomore Zach Bridson pinned teammate and classmate Will Smith in the finals.

Other champions for the Owls were Alex Smith (145), Dylan Lockard (152), Nick Lawrence (160), Nate Lawrence (171) and Ben Tammany (285). Tammany pinned teammate Matt Wright in the heavyweight finals.

"Nate Lawrence had a great win against a very good Reading kid, but all of our champions looked good," said Chooljian. "We're wrestling very well right now."

For Londonderry, Joe Maio came in first at 135, beating Timberlane's Luke Morrier in the finals, while James Chase was third at 130.

Manchester Memorial's Steven Dwight, who beat Timberlane's Wes Grew in the finals, was named the tournament Outstanding Wrestler.
