SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — Behind a season-high 23 point effort from junior Chloe Rothman, the Merrimack College women’s basketball team earned a 76-74 win over Master’s College.
With 13 seconds to play and the Warriors holding a one point lead, Rothman went to the free throw line and made 1 of 2. The Lady Mustangs were able to grab the defensive rebound with time still on the clock, but their final shot was no good.
Rothman finished her impressive game 8 of 17 from the floor and 3 of 6 from beyond the arc in the 37 minutes. California native Shelby Secor also starred with 19 points for Merrimack.
Rothman opened the scoring for the Warriors with back-to-back baskets less than two minutes into the game. In the first half, Merrimack was 14 of 28 from the field, with Rothman and Secor scoring 13 points each.
In the opening five minutes of the second half, both team’s managed to tie the score at 44-44. Master’s College took a two point lead at 46-44 but the Warriors regained the lead after a 3-pointer from junior Allison Wagner, bringing the score to 47-46.
With the clock winding down in the second half, Merrimack and Master’s College went through eight lead changes, as well eight ties before Rothman and her teammates closed out the win.
