Phillips' Shehadeh finishes 2nd

BRONX, N.Y. — Anoush Shehadeh, a junior at Phillips Academy, placed second in 17:38 yesterday at the Foot Locker cross country Northeast Regional, finishing just five seconds behind Tessa Barrett of Waverly, Pa., on the 5K course at Van Courtlandt Park.

Shehadeh, who qualified for nationals last year as well, edged third-place finisher Hannah DeBalsi of Westport Conn., by two seconds.

Mickey Burke finished in 15:19 and claimed the Northeast Regional boys title. Christian Alvarado of Fairfield, Conn., placed second in 15:22, with Alex Ostberg of Darien, Conn., finishing in third in 15:23.

The top 10 boys and the top 10 girls qualified to compete against runners from the South, Midwest and West Regional meets in the Foot Locker national finals Dec.14 at Balboa Park in San Diego.
