George-Williams beats his old town

METHUEN — Austin George-Williams grew up in Dracut before moving to Methuen in the seventh grade.

“I’m glad he came over,” Methuen receiver Colin Langford said.

George-Williams completed 19 of 30 passes for 287 yards, threw for three touchdowns and intercepted a pass to lead Methuen to a 41-19 victory over Thanksgiving Day rival Dracut.

“It definitely feels a lot better beating these guys because I grew up with them,” he said. “I know a lot of them. I knew their quarterback (Tyler) Bassett and his older brother Zach.”

George-Williams completed five passes to Langford for a total of 127 yards. The two combined for three touchdown strikes of 35, 9 and 49 yards.

“I’m so proud of him,” Langford said about George-Williams. “He was on point today. Every game, you can see he’s getting better and better. I couldn’t have done some of the things I’ve done without him.

“I’m so proud of this team for fighting all game long and getting a win.”

Three interceptions

The Methuen secondary had three interceptions, including one that junior Kenny Sullivan returned for a touchdown.

“I’ve never seen a more confident player than Kenny Sullivan,” Langford said. “He works every day and obviously, it paid off.”

George-Williams’ pick came with time expiring in the second quarter.

Ruddy Severino made the other interception.
