Ex-Pentucket star earns lacrosse scholarship to BU

Pingree School senior lacrosse player Liz Jayne of Merrimac recently signed to play lacrosse for Boston University.

“It’s awesome,” Jayne said. “The whole recruiting process is long. But it’s very rewarding at the end, and it’s something that I knew that I wanted to do. So I’m very excited.”

Jayne, an attacker, was named a Cape Ann League All-Star while with Pentucket, where she racked up 99 goals during her freshman and sophomore years. Last year as a rookie at Pingree, she was named all-league and made the New England Prep All-Star team.

“I love everything about (lacrosse),” Jayne said. “I love how it’s a team sport. I love the feeling of a win. It’s awesome. It’s a fast-paced sport, which I really enjoy. And it’s been a family thing forever.”

Jayne picked up her first stick at the age of 6 and was brought up through the Pentucket Youth Program.

Sarah Powers, who coached her last year at Pingree, said, “She is a very skilled player, an excellent attacker. She was our highest scorer on the team too. She is like a sharpshooter when she shoots. Give her a corner, she’ll find the back of the net.

“She’s incredibly funny and goofy (too). She’s also a great role model because she works hard. She leads by example on the field, but off the field, she is very light-hearted.”

Another former Sachem now playing in the prep ranks, Kayla O’Connor of Governor’s, has signed with BC.
