Andover's Moschitto sets up win
With just four minutes left in the second overtime, Andover's Marina Moschitto blasted a perfect corner kick to Amelia Hammerl in front of the net, and the forward headed it in for the game-winning goal as Brooks downed Westminster 2-1 in the NEPSAC Class A quarterfinals last night.
Brooks trailed 1-0 at the half, but after being moved from midfield to forward during the game, Moschitto scored the tying goal with 12 minutes left in regulation off an assists from Carter Makin. Amelia Hulshult made four saves for the Green and White, which host Phillips Academy on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Big Blue volleyball rolls
No. 2 Phillips opened the NEPSAC Class A tourney in style, pounding St. Paul's 25-11, 25-16, 25-12. Viola Rothschild notched a team-high seven kills, 18 service points and 16 digs, while Melissa Yan added 18 assists and Sarah Onrato had seven aces for the winners.
The Big Blue face Hotchkiss in the semifinals at Phillips Exter on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. If they win, they will play the final later that day.
Brooks advances
Brooks surrendered a goal at the two-minute mark of the first half, but bounced back for a 2-1 win over Williston. Christie Donovan and Chapin Duke scored for Brooks, who advance to play Thayer on Saturday (noon) at Phillips Academy in the NEPSAC semifinals.
Andover moves on
Behind two goals from Elisa Flynn and Katie Riley, Phillips Andover cruised to a 4-0 win over Tabor, moving on to the semifinals on Saturday against Hodgkiss (at Deerfield, noon).
Brooks game site moved
The location of the Brooks-Pingree football bowl game scheduled for Saturday at 1:30 p.m. has been switched. Instead of Belmont Hill, the game has been moved to Endicott College.
Salem to play at noon
In order to assure more daylight, Saturday's Division 1 championship game at Salem High School between the Blue Devils and Nashua North, has been moved to noon from 1 p.m.
Swimmers omitted
Also named to the MVC swimming all-star team, but left off the original list, are Central Catholic's Hannah Mitchell and Methuen's Chanelle Arsenault and Emily Boyd.
Brooks stnus Wilbraham
Seventh-seed Brooks pulled a stunning upset of the undefeated Wilbraham, 2-1, in penaly kicks. Having only allowed seven goals all season, the Titans defense appeared everything it was cracked up to be with rangy central defenders.
In penalty kicks, reserve goaltendre Cam Johst was spectacular, making numerous point-blank saves. Brooks will play Kimball Union on Saturday.
