PHILADELPHIA — Despite 21 points and seven boards from Dee Mency, Merrimack fell to No. 25 Philadelphia University 68-64.
Merrimack, which was preseason No. 15, dropped to 0-2.
The Rams had two players with double-doubles, including Malcolm Ingram who scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 10 boards.
Darren Duncan notched 20 points to go with five boards, five assists and four steals, including one that led to a late 64-63 lead for Merrimack. Duncan was also perfect from the line at 8-for-8.
The Warriors return to action Sunday in Philadelphia against Holy Family at 1 p.m.
Tampa, Cook whip Merrimack
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — The Merrimack women's team dropped a 70-59 decision to No. 22 Tampa in the Courtyard by Marriott Classic championship.
Tournament MVP Tiara Cook (30 points, 13 rebounds) was too much for Merrimack to handle.
Casey Miller scored a team-high 21 points and swiped four steals for Merrimack, which was outrebounded 49-23.
Merrimack's Tiffany Colon, who had 11 points yesterday, was selected to the all-tourney team.
In the consolation game, Tiffin ran away from East Stroudsburg, 57-44.
