NORTH ANDOVER — Greg Herenda had no idea what he was getting involved in, but he was more than willing to give it a shot.
Three years ago, the UMass Lowell head men's basketball coach was recommended by former colleague and UConn men's associate coach George Blaney to travel to Ireland and run a camp to teach middle and high school-aged kids the fundamentals of the game.

Windham's blue-collar sprinter

You don't usually think of track sprinters as guys who train at their specialty year-round.
Often times, they're soccer or football players using track as a way to stay sharp and retain an edge in their sport of choice. Only rarely do you find a top-notch sprinter with a singular focus on track.

Ortiz, Sox avoid hearing, agree to one-year deal

BOSTON — David Ortiz and the Boston Red Sox avoided salary arbitration by agreeing yesterday to a one-year contract worth $14,575,000.
The deal for the slugging designated hitter was midway between the $16.5 million he asked for last month and the $12.65 million submitted by the Red Sox, which matched his 2011 earnings.
