By the Numbers
Patriots
1 — Career sacks by New England's second-year linebacker Jerod Mayo. It came last week against the Colts.
7-11 — Last week Randy Moss became the seventh player in NFL history with 14,000 passing yards and the 11th player ever to catch 900 passes. Moss recently put Jets receivers coach Henry Ellard (13,777 yards) in his rear-view mirror.
42 — Pass attempts in which Tom Brady has targeted Wes Welker in the last four games. Welker has 38 catches on those passes for 435 yards and 3 TDs.
Jets
6 — Passing touchdowns allowed by New York this year, fewest in the NFL. The Jets have given up 6 rushing TDs as well.
14 — Times in the history of this AFC East rivalry that the Jets have swept the season series. The last one came in 2000, Bill Belichick's first season here. New England has swept 13 times.
16 — Catches by Braylon Edwards in five games since being traded from Cleveland. The 26-year-old has 271 yards receiving and a pair of TDs with the Jets.
Keys for the Patriots
1. Turn the page — Last week is over. Forget the Colts and realize that the objective now is to lock up the AFC East. You do that with two wins in the next three weeks.
2. Still just a game — The last thing New England needs is to get caught up in a dueling banjos contest with the New Yorkers. Can Darrelle Revis handle Randy Moss? Is Rex Ryan a defensive genius in the Belichick mode? Who cares? Win a football game with sound decisions on your terms. That means get the football to the open receiver - most likely Wes Welker - all you can.
3. Locate Dustin Keller — The New York tight end kills the Patriots. Put bodies on him and be awake every time he releases. The same attention paid to Dallas Clark last week is called for here.
Hector Longo's prediction: Patriots 24, Jets 6 (Longo's record: 6-3 straight up, 5-4 against the line)
Analysis: New York, fueled by the early-season emotion, pounced on the Pats' fragile offensive state in Week 2. Without Wes Welker and with Tom Brady still tap-dancing in the pocket, the Jets spotted a weakness and stole one. That's not happening in Foxboro, where Brady will simply outplay Mark Sanchez, easily bridging the talent gap between the defenses.
