James Suozzo, Chris Laham and David Bellmont were named to the 2009 New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England Team.
All three were also Northeast-10 All-Conference first team selections in 2009, leading Merrimack to a share of the 2009 Northeast-10 Championship.
Suozzo, the Northeast-10 MVP, anchored an offense ranked sixth in the nation, led the region with 23 passing touchdowns and 15 rushing scores.
Laham totaled 92.0 receiving yards per game and 13 touchdowns to lead the conference. He graduates as the all-time school leader in touchdowns (38), points (228), receiving touchdowns (36), and receiving yards (2,411).
Bellmont, a preseason All-American by Consensus Draft Services, anchored an offensive line that allowed a league-low 11 sacks and paved the way for Merrimack's top-ranked offense.
Kasper runs in NCAAs
Georgetown freshman Kirsten Kasper of North Andover was the Hoyas No. 4 runner at the NCAA Division 1 championships at Indiana State University yesterday. Kasper was 152nd with a 6K time of 21:57 as the Hoyas came in 21st out of 31 teams.
Kasper's high school rival, Bromfield's Emily Jones, was Georgetown's No. 3 runner, coming in 82nd in a time of 21:17.
MacDonald paces UMass Lowell
Former Central Catholic standout Angus MacDonald led UMass Lowell's cross country team at the NCAA Division 2 national championships at Evansville University over the weekend. He came in 37th overall with a 10K time of 32:29.4 as the River Hawks came in 16th out of 24 teams.
Also for UMass Lowell, ex-Pentucket standout Eric McDonald was 109th and Haverhill's Danny Wang was 127th as the team's No. 4 and No. 5 runners.
Stonehill finished 21st as Haverhill's Pat Fullerton and Ethan Penney were 105th and 124th respectively as the No. 2 and No. 4 runners.
Racine No. 2 runner for UNH
Junior Allison Letourneau placed 10th overall to lead the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the 20-squad ECAC Championships over the weekend at Van Cortlandt Park.
Letourneau finished the 5K run in a time of 18:27:20. Junior Jennifer Racine of Haverhill was close behind, finishing 16th in the 192-runner field in 18:41.10.
Warriors host Skate with Santa
The Merrimack College hockey team will host its annual Skate with Santa following Saturday's 4 p.m. game with the University of New Hampshire.
All fans in attendance may stay after the game for holiday festivities featuring open skating, a team autograph session, cookies and the chance to meet Santa. The event is free to all ticket holders.
Those wishing to skate must bring their own skates.
