Saints' Ellis confident he'll return against Pats

Sedrick Ellis says he feels fresh and is looking forward to returning to the field for the Saints when New Orleans hosts the New England Patriots on Monday night.

Ellis sprained his right knee in Miami in Week 7 and has not played the past four games.

He is back at practice this week and was not listed on the team's official injury report. Starting cornerback Jabari Greer also appears close to returning from his pulled left groin after practicing a second straight day on a limited basis.

The Saints did have a couple regulars miss practice. Receiver Lance Moore sat out because of a left ankle injury that has kept him out three weeks. Offensive guard Carl Nicks was out with a stomach illness.

Pro football: Rams QB Bulger not speculating on future

Some in St. Louis wonder if Marc Bulger has played his last game with the Rams. The quarterback says it's too early to speculate about his future.

Bulger will miss at least three weeks and could be out for the remaining six games with a fractured left shin bone. He was on crutches at practice and said there will be plenty of time to determine if he is back in 2010.

"We've got six weeks to go in this season and whether I come back this season, we'll see," Bulger said. "We'll have plenty of time on the offseason to make those (other) decisions. I don't want to be a distraction in any way. We're thinking optimistic around here."

Kyle Boller will start tomorrow as St. Louis (1-9) hosts Seattle (3-7).

Pro football: Las Vegas tops Florida to win UFL championship

Graham Gano kicked a 33-yard field goal in overtime to give the Las Vegas Locomotives a 20-17 victory over the Florida Tuskers in the inaugural UFL championship game.

Las Vegas (5-2), which lost twice to the Tuskers during the regular season, became the first team to beat Florida (6-1) during the first-ever UFL overtime game in front of 14,801 fans at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Florida won the coin toss and had possession first in OT, but Brooks Bollinger was intercepted by Isaiah Trufant to set up Gano's winning kick.

Matt Bryant kicked a 27-yard field goal for Florida with 2:06 left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Pro basketball: Family, friends pay last respects to Pollin

Abe Pollin cared so deeply for his Washington Wizards that former coach Wes Unseld remembers him coming into the locker room after victories and giving players a celebratory peck on the cheek.

Once, an uncomfortable player told Unseld he'd punch Pollin if it happened again.

"You go ahead and knock him out," Unseld recalled telling the player. "But your career is over. You're not going to be able to get up yourself, because I'm going to take care of you."

The NBA's longest-tenured owner, Pollin died Tuesday at 85. Unseld and others remembered him during a funeral at the Washington Hebrew Congregation.

Unseld helped the Washington Bullets win the 1978 NBA championship, and later served as both coach and general manager of Pollin's team, which was renamed the Wizards because Pollin believed too many lives in Washington were being lost by the senseless use of handguns.

College basketball: Rosario scores 22, helps Rutgers beat UMass Amherst

Mike Rosario scored 22 points and Hamady Ndiaye added 14 to lead Rutgers to an 83-75 win over Massachusetts in the Legends Classic.

Rutgers (3-1) will play the Michigan State-Florida winner tonight.

Ricky Harris keyed a late run for the Minutemen (2-3) that wiped out a double-digit deficit and scored 22 points. Anthony Gurley had 19 points.

Harris hit a 3-pointer with 1:31 left that sliced the lead to 79-75. Rutgers was able to seal the win from the line and avoid what would have been a disastrous loss after leading by 19 early in the second half.

Pro hopckey: Coyotes recall forward Mikkel Boedker from minors

The Phoenix Coyotes recalled forward Mikkel Boedker from their minor league affiliate.

The 19-year-old played six games with the Coyotes this season before being sent to the San Antonio Rampage, where he appeared in 12 games.

Boedker has appeared in 84 career NHL games, getting 11 goals and 17 assists. He was Phoenix's first choice in the 2008 draft and played in 78 games for the Coyotes in the 2008-09 season.

Horse racing: Horse industry closely watches Dubai debt crisis

The debt crisis in Dubai was being closely monitored by buyers and sellers of high-end racehorses, but there was no immediate indication Dubai's ruler would scale back his enormous financial ties to the industry in the United States and elsewhere. The emirate's ruler, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and his family have been among the highest spenders at major American thoroughbred auctions dating to the 1980s, often paying millions of dollars for top bloodstock even during market downturns such as the current one.

Dubai World, the main investment arm of the Middle Eastern city-state, is asking for at least a six-month delay on paying back a nearly $60 billion debt. It was unclear what effect the country's debt crisis would have on the sheik's horse racing and breeding interests and whether the American thoroughbred market would feel any repercussions.
