SPRINGFIELD — Behind 19 points from senior captain Darren Duncan, the Merrimack men's basketball team extended its win streak to seven with a 62-57 win over AIC.
The streak is the longest since 1999-00 when Bert Hammel's team won nine straight.
Dee Mency chipped in 13 points in the win.
Central Catholic grad Wilfredo Pagan buried a baseline jumper in the first half which jumpstarted the Warriors. Capped off by a three from Duncan, Merrimack went on a 13-0 run to build a 24-10 lead with 9:24 to play in the half.
The Yellow Jackets, however, cut it to 30-26 at the half and took a 31-30 lead early in the second half.
But the hosts couldn't overcome a stretch in which it missed 16 of 20 shots.
With a costly foul from Duncan at the 2:24 mark, Byron Richards converted on a four-point play to cut the lead to two (56-54) before a three-point answer from Mency as time expired on the shot clock.
Aikeem Vanderhorst (19 points) and Richards (17 points) led AIC.
Merrimack (8-4) returns to action Saturday when it hosts Assumption at 3 p.m.
