Seniors Corey Lunney and April Daugherty were named Merrimack College Male and Female Athletes of the Year last night.
Lunney was the Inside Lacrosse National Preseason Player of the Year and is on pace to become the program’s all-time leader in goals and points.
Lunney scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Warriors (10-2, 9-1 NE-10) to a 10-8 victory over St. Michael’s yesterday.
Lunney has 42 goals and 13 assists this year.
Daugherty is the Female Athlete of the Year for the second straight year.
She is the first-ever three-time All-American in the history of the field hockey program.
She scored 52 points this year and graduates as the program’s all-time leading scorer.
Waldie earns award
Field hockey player Candace Waldie of North Andover was named one of the Merrimack Scholar Athletes of the Year.
Waldie led the country in scoring (61 points) and earned second-team All-American honors and was a first-team all-conference selection.
The education major was an all-academic team selection with a 3.71 GPA.
Women’s lacrosse losses
Jenn Pino of North Andover had four goals but Merrimack lost 19-10 to Bentley.
