New Haverhill track club off to fast start

---- — The Haverhill Elite Track Club, a new youth track and field club in Haverhill, participated at the AAU Regional Junior Olympic championships in New Brunswick, N.J., with excellent results.

At the meet, 13 of 15 athletes qualified for the nationals to be held in Michigan July 28-Aug. 4.

Regional champions were 8-year-old Thomas Darisse, 9-year-old Hanna Holmes and 11-year-old Jeremy Darisse, all in the javelin, 11-year-old Caleigh Warchol in the discus and 8-year-old Synneva Elliott in the shot put. Also winning the gold, in 5:28.42, was the 9-10 year-old 4x400 relay of Peter Crapsey Jr., Jack Lancaster, Ty Lancaster and Azariah Hooper.

The previous weekend, 20 Elite members advanced from a qualifier to the regional.

The Haverhill Elite Track Club is a non-profit club for youngsters ages 7-16 in the Merrimack Valley and southern New Hampshire and offers opportunities to learn the sport, stay fit and gain competition experience on the local, regional and national stage. It belongs to the USA Track and Field New England Association and the Amateur Athletic Union.
