---- — NORTH ANDOVER — The steady rain and occasional downpour played havoc on the local baseball schedule yesterday.
But it couldn’t deter the North Andover East Little League team. It played its District 14 game against Lowell Callery at Carl Thomas Field and prevailed with a 6-2 victory.
“We got a lot of help from parents, did a lot of raking and used a lot of ‘speedy dry’ but we got it in,” said North Andover coach Rob Carpentier. “That’s the big story, that we got the game in.”
Stephen Hajjar got the win for North Andover, striking out 11 in five innings, and he helped his own cause at the plate by going 2 for 2 and scoring a run. Joe Phinney pitched a scoreless sixth inning in the victory.
Jake McElroy led the offense, with a solo home run, two hits and two runs scored and Thomas Finn added a two-RBI hit in North Andover’s big five-run third inning.
North Andover is scheduled to be back in action at home again today at 5:30 p.m. against Tewksbury.
