Final score

Beedham’s big day

Tom Beedham scored on a penalty kick and then netted the game-winner in the 69th minute to lead second-seeded Londonderry boys soccer 2-1 over seventh-seeded Exeter in the quarterfinals.

The Lancers will play No. 3 seed Hanover in the semifinals Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Southern New Hampshire University.

Eighth-seeded Timberlane lost 2-1 to top-seeded Bedford in other quarterfinal action.

Windham advances to semis

Behind two goals from Chris Ulbrich and a strong defense anchored by Tyler Masone, second-seeded Windham boys soccer rolled to a 3-0 victory over 10th-seeded Coe-Brown in the Division 2 quarterfinals yesterday.

“His goals were just fantastic,” Windham coach Mike Hachey said about Ulbrich.

Needing a stronger defense, Hachey converted Masone from midfield to right outside back at the beginning of the season. Masone has been strong in the back all year long and continued to be yesterday.

Andrew Pesci made nine saves for Windham, which plays No. 14 seed John Stark in the semifinals Thursday at 4 p.m. at Stellos Stadium.

Merinder’s marvelous effort

“Under these conditions tonight (rain and cold weather), he had to save everything,” Andover coach Jim Saalfrank said about his goalkeeper Connor Merinder who made a remarkable 22 stops against Danvers to lead the Golden Warriors to a 2-1 victory in boys soccer.

An Huynh scored off a corner kick with less than 10 minutes remaining to break a 1-1 tie.

Record dive

Leigh Freeman won the third Merrimack Valley Invitational diving competition, posting a new Haverhill varsity record score of 283.40.

Michaela Sliney took second with a Haverhill freshmen record score of 264.65.

Andover’s Deborah Daly took third.
