Lauren Murtagh recorded 18 assists and both Azita Bakhtyari and Lauren Gibson had eight kills as Andover swept Methuen in girls volleyball to finish the regular season 20-0.
Best since 2003
Haverhill’s girls volleyball team wrapped up its best regular season since 2003 with a sweep of Lowell. The MVC Div. 2 champs, who got strong games at the net from Haley DeRoche and Abigail Sonuga, improved to 14-4.
Second-half surge
Ronald Ried, Michael Buraczynski and Olof Lindhe all scored second-half goals as top-seeded Merrimack men’s soccer won 3-1 over eighth-seeded AIC in the Northeast-10 quarterfinals.
Merrimack (13-2-2) tied a program record by extending its unbeaten streak to 12 consecutive games and advanced to the semifinal round where it will host fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce tomorrow.
Overtime heroics
After neither team scored during regulation or the first 7 minutes of overtime, sophomore forward Katie Bresciani received a long pass and scored on a breakaway, leading fourth-seeded Merrimack women’s soccer 1-0 over fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce in the Northeast-10 quarterfinals.
The Warriors (11-7-1) advanced to the semifinals and will face either top-seeded AIC or No. 8 Adelphi.
