Hillies' distance group keeps school mark in family

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — The Haverhill girls took second in the distance medley relay, smashing the school record.

Back in 2008, it was Julie Solimine anchoring the previous school mark with a 12:58 clocking. Yesterday, it was younger sister Jackie sizzling a 1,200 meter leg of 3.46.6 to set the tone for the Hillies.

Erin Connolly, Sam Wise and Riley Gilmore all ran super legs to cross the line in 12:36.6, smashing the mark.

One other highlight for the Hillie girls was Andrea Blanchard’s javelin throw of 102-5.

For the Hillie boys, the long jump relay of Alex Mayhew, Phil Sasso-Flanagan, and Dozie Onwuka finished third with Mayhew leading the way at 20-6. Haverhill also took fourth in the boys javelin with Jack Pettis, Ryan Canney, and Jorge Gomez.

North Andover’s girls set four different school records at the state Division 2 Relays on Saturday to finish fourth in the Mass. Division 2 state relays.

The Knights were second in the high jump relay at 14-7, with Catherine Flaherty (5-1), Megan McCann (4-9) and Audrey Zero (4-9) stepping up.

The 4x1,600 clocking of 22:03.63 was good enough for fourth. The runners on that one were Danielle Voke, Carli Klimas, Katelyn Thomas and Deirdre Martyn.

Flaherty, Katie Wolstromer, Sabrina Frahlich and Mary Lavery combined to clock in 6th in 1:12.24, while the sprint medley group of Eleni Coufos, Brianna Coviello, Carrie Manteigna and Genna Smolag grabbed third at 4:18.45, to complete the fourth school.
