SALEM — Ryan Moloney kept Salem bats quiet over six innings, sending Londonderry to a comfortable 7-2 victory.
Extending their winning streak to seven games, the 9-3 Lancers remain at the top of the Division 1 standings with Concord (8-3), Merrimack (7-3) and Spaulding (7-4) all lurking close behind.
The senior shackled the Blue Devil offense to just three hits and a walk, striking out 11 while inducing five infield groundouts.
The Lancers broke the game open in the fourth inning by scoring four times. Key run-scoring singles came from leadoff hitter Jake Welch (three hits and three runs scored) and Brett Evangelista (two stolen bases) as Londonderry opened up a 5-0 advantage and cruised behind Moloney from there.
Rob Del Signore drove in three runs in the winning effort for the Lancers, who are off until Friday when they travel to Bedford. Also, Colby Joncas was 1 for 1 and played a strong defensive game behind the plate and Austin Marino was 2 for 3 and scored a run.
Salem (4-8 with four straight losses) broke up the shutout in the seventh on Cody Soucy’s two-out, two-run double. The Blue Devils will try to snap out of their skid tomorrow at Merrimack.
