If Holyoke Community College had any thoughts of an NJCAA Region XXI baseball championship, Salem’s Trevor Bouvier single-handedly beat it out of them in the title game at Massasoit yesterday.
Bouvier clouted a pair of homers and drove in seven runs as the Knights took the title with a 17-2 pummeling of Holyoke.
Next stop will be the nationals for the Knights.
Haverhill’s Jonathan DelaCruz got the hit parade going in the first, doubling and scoring on Alex Ray’s sac fly. Bouvier broke it open at 5-0 with a second-inning grand slam.
Winning pitcher Chris Martin, Newton’s Tyler Johnson and Newburyport’s David Cusack all helped pad the lead with big RBI hits.
Martin went eight innings and didn’t allow an earned run for the win, helping himself in a three-hit afternoon.
